How does the Gladiator build work?
Gladiator turns short activation windows into repeated heavy attacks. Its early rotation uses Keen Strike to sustain MP, while developed skill specialties change how often Overhead Slam can be used. A late-game rotation only works when its required options are actually equipped.

Who this build suits
Players who want direct melee damage, cleave for grouped enemies and an active block option.
What to watch for
Damage falls when you chase a moving target or spend the burst window on an untargetable boss. Standing in front of a boss is an encounter decision, not an automatic damage gain.
What should you check before using this loadout?
These checks apply the Gladiator reference-client guide to the choices below. Verify current regional tooltips before relying on an unlock or changing a defensive assignment.
Confirm the Slam interaction
Read Overhead Slam with your selected specialty, then identify the condition that makes it usable. The reference cooldown-removal option does not establish that every press will activate the attack. Practice the interaction with Raging Burst before moving the sequence into a longer fight. Keep Rending Blow available when the conditional spender cannot be used.
Keep a usable resource fallback
Test whether Keen Strike restores the resources your current sequence consumes. A developed Rending Blow recovery option depends on the selected specialty and critical hits; it should not be assumed from the skill name alone. If the loop empties your MP, return to the reliable filler rather than spending more resources to imitate a faster demonstration.
Choose the defensive slot for a real hit
Know which incoming attack you intend to answer with Focused Block. If you replace it with Wave Armor for nearby enemies or Lifestealing Blade for recovery, identify how you will handle that attack instead. A recovery choice still requires a target you can hit, and area damage does not substitute for a required block.
Starting Stigma loadout
4 equippedThis is a group-PvE starting set from the cited reference-client guide. Keep the core interaction intact and change a flex slot only when the encounter gives you a reason.
Raging Burst
Opens the Overhead Slam damage window.
Focused Block
A deliberate block for a blockable incoming attack.
Assault Stance
Combat-speed support; may appear as Lunge Stance in the Global client.
Zikel's Blessing
Attack and accuracy support for the damage window.
Situational alternatives
- Wave Armor. Replace Focused Block for nearby area damage only when blocking is unnecessary.
- Lifestealing Blade. Replace Focused Block for recovery from targets you can keep hitting.
Stigma names are reference labels. Confirm the matching icon and current tooltip in your client before spending upgrade materials.
Core skills and their jobs
Understand why each skill is present before copying an endgame sequence. These are priority interactions, not a claim that the rest of your skill book is unused.
Ruinous Blow
Prepare the damage buff before the burst window.
Overhead Slam
The main conditional spender; cooldown removal still needs its activation condition.
Rending Blow
A repeatable attack between available Slams.
Keen Strike
Recover MP whenever the rest of the loop cannot sustain itself.
Gladiator PvE rotation
A priority sequence is more reliable than a fixed macro when a boss moves, your resources drop or a conditional attack is unavailable.
- 1
Keep the boss targetable and handle any required opening block. Align Assault Stance and Zikel's Blessing with useful uptime.
- 2
Use Ruinous Blow, then Raging Burst. Spend the available Overhead Slam window before returning to Rending Blow.
- 3
Weave Keen Strike if MP drops. Move for mechanics even when that interrupts the damage sequence.
Common mistake
Copying a repeated-Slam rotation before unlocking the required specialty and activation interaction.
Why is this Gladiator setup not working?
Identify the condition that failed in the encounter before changing the entire bar. The observations below are editorial troubleshooting steps, not measured performance claims.
A burst window that ends too early
Separate a lost target from a missing skill prerequisite. If the boss became untargetable, the preparation may have been committed at the wrong moment. If the boss stayed available but Slam did not activate, inspect the trigger and specialty. Change the timing or unlock assumption that failed before replacing unrelated Stigmas or buying another item.
A gear change that breaks the loop
Compare total Overhead Slam and Rending Blow levels before and after equipping the replacement. If a required option is lost, assess whether the new item is still useful with a simpler rotation. A higher displayed value does not restore the missing interaction. Record both resource behavior and time spent safely attacking when comparing the two setups.
Gear and stat priorities
Choose equipment for the loop you can actually play. The order below is a decision framework; it does not claim measured best-in-slot gear, universal caps or a perfect roll on every slot.
| What to compare | Why it matters for Gladiator |
|---|---|
| Weapon damage / damage boost | Compare the actual offensive lines and available skill ranks on the item. |
| Combat speed | Useful for the melee loop, but evaluate it alongside resource sustain. |
| Accuracy and critical hit | Inspect misses and critical consistency against the encounter; there is no verified universal cap here. |
| Survival and recovery | Choose enough tolerance or sustain to keep attacking safely. |
Before rerolling equipment
Count total skill levels after the replacement, check whether the desired line can appear on that item, and keep enough resources for the next upgrade. A higher displayed combat power is not proof that an item improves this build.
Accuracy and critical needs depend on enemy defenses, buffs and the current regional patch. Use actual encounter results to identify misses or resource problems before paying for a theoretical cap.
Read the gear decision guideLeveling into the build
- Establish a resource-stable Keen Strike and Rending Blow loop before investing in conditional burst.
- Check total skill levels from your base ranks, equipment and Daevanion together. The reference setup depends on Overhead Slam and Rending Blow specialty access.
- At reference total rank 16, Overhead Slam can select cooldown removal while Rending Blow can select MP recovery on critical hits. Check both tooltips before changing the loop.
A total skill level can include bonuses from equipment and progression systems. Base investment and total level are different numbers; compare both with the specialty requirements displayed in your game.
Understand Stigmas and total skill levelsAdjust for solo play and PvP
Solo and questing
Keep recovery while learning pull sizes. Wave Armor suits nearby packs; Lifestealing Blade addresses HP pressure. Swap only the flex slot rather than removing Raging Burst from a Slam-focused plan.
PvP considerations
Keep a gap closer, control follow-up and Shock Release available as deliberate actions. Choose a defensive Stigma when an opponent can interrupt your burst. The PvE Slam sequence is not a validated PvP preset.
PvP notes explain adaptation priorities. They are not a separately tested competitive loadout or a current-patch ranking.
Gladiator build questions
Is this a tank build?
This is a melee damage starting point with defensive utility. A block skill does not make it a substitute for a party's agreed tank setup.
Why does Overhead Slam not repeat?
Check its activation condition, your total skill rank, selected specialty and whether Raging Burst is equipped. Removing cooldown does not remove the activation requirement.
What should an early Gladiator build prioritize?
Prioritize a melee sequence you can sustain with your current unlocks, enough defense to stay active, and a clear Raging Burst window. Check the total ranks and selected specialties before relying on repeated Overhead Slam or critical-dependent recovery. A late-game demonstration is a progression destination, not a substitute for those prerequisites.
Is this the best Gladiator build for every server?
No. This is a documented starting point. Regional balance, skill names, encounter demands and available ranks can change the correct choices. Use the cited references and current in-game tooltips together.
